High-Risk Ultrasounds

Our facility provides high-risk ultrasounds to expectant mothers. Those identified as having a specific high-risk issue, such as pre-eclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, placenta previa and other possible concerns, as well as those of a maternal age over 36 years and any detected abnormality, are most likely to receive a high-risk ultrasound.

A high-risk ultrasound is generally performed between 20 to 30 weeks into the pregnancy and is reviewed by a Perinatologist who is equipped with better equipment than what is utilized during a standard ultrasound. In the ultrasound, the existence of all fetal organs is confirmed and abnormalities in the anatomical structure are ruled out. This includes an examination of the heart and large blood vessels, as well as the collective structure of the fetus. The placenta, amniotic fluid and uterus are also examined.
